Can you believe he’s gone?
I can’t imagine a World I know without MJ and his music!
Its like one of those things that take a while to register. I got up in the morning and heard the news. I had a superficial immediate reaction “Oh”. Listened to the songs we have grown up with…and I continued to hum “Beat it” under my breath as the day progressed.
And slowly, as more and more people talked about it, orkut and facebook status messages began to flood with his songs, his story, his memories….it finally began to sink in…He really is gone. Like that. Forever. At 50.
Its not just the death of a great artist, it literally is the end of an era. MJ represented western music to us! Growing up in a small town, my first brush with “English” music was MJ. Pop music was MJ.
I still remember parties that were crazy and fun, just because MJ music blared from rickety music systems…making us dance and feel cool.
How can one not have memories associated with “Thriller”?
You remember that style? The military style tight jacket, that single sequined glove, the aviators??
That’s what we associated with “cool”. MJ defined style for us.
His going feels strange. As I said, the end of an era. Of a phemomenon itself. The end of pop. Childhood and youth, as I knew it…
RIP MJ.
They told him don’t you ever come around here
Don’t wanna see your face, you better disappear
The fire’s in their eyes and their words are really clear
So beat it, just beat it
You better run, you better do what you can
Don’t wanna see no blood, don’t be a macho man
You wanna be tough, better do what you can
So beat it, but you wanna be bad
Just beat it, beat it, beat it, beat it
No one wants to be defeated
Showin’ how funky and strong is your fight
It doesn’t matter who’s wrong or right
Just beat it, beat itJust beat it, beat it
Just beat it, beat it
Just beat it, beat it
